week 12

Congratulations - you're officially pregnant! Not that nothing has been happening until now, of course - but this is the stage when a lot of couples decide to 'make it official', to spread the good news and to celebrate with friends and family that there is a new baby on the way.

Your body changes

You may have been looking forward to reaching this point in your pregnancy, as getting this far dramatically increases the chances of everything going well. Your clothes may be beginning to feel slightly tight, but you probably still won't look pregnant and it could be several weeks before you need maternity clothes.

Other changes

  • You may develop a dark line called the linea nigra on your abdomen.
  • Any nausea may just be starting to wear off.
  • You may need to urinate frequently.

Facts about you:

  • Your placenta has taken over production of the hormones that are supporting the baby's growth. As a result, your risk of miscarriage drops.
  • Your uterus is the size of a grapefruit.
  • You may develop dark marks on your face called chloasma. These should fade soon after birth.
